Mitel In 2026: Zoom Partnership, Hybrid UC And AI-Powered Contact Centre — SA Guide

Mitel completed a major debt restructuring in June 2025 and launched a Zoom-exclusive UCaaS partnership, a new AI contact centre platform, and an urgent end-of-life deadline for MiVoice Connect customers. Here is what SA resellers need to know.

Mitel is a global enterprise communications vendor with a significant installed base of on-premise PBX and UC systems, including the MiVoice Business, MiVoice 5000, MX-ONE, and OpenScape platforms (the latter acquired through the Atos Unify transaction). Mitel’s strategy centres on hybrid communications — enabling enterprise customers to modernise their UC environments without abandoning existing on-premise infrastructure — and a landmark partnership with Zoom that combines Mitel’s telephony platforms with Zoom’s collaboration and AI capabilities.

Zoom-Mitel Partnership

Announced in September 2024 and launched globally in February 2025, the Zoom-Mitel partnership delivers an AI-first hybrid communications solution that integrates Zoom Workplace and Zoom AI Companion with Mitel’s flagship telephony platforms. Using Mitel’s Common Communication Framework, the integration provides a fully embedded experience including UC and mobile app integration, hardware device-level integration, bi-directional presence, call-to-video escalation, and centralised user provisioning.

The rollout began with OpenScape Voice and OpenScape 4000 platforms, expanded to MiVoice Business solutions, and extended to MiVoice 5000 and MX-ONE platforms by the end of 2025. This gives enterprises running any major Mitel platform a path to Zoom’s collaboration tools without replacing their existing telephony infrastructure.

Mitel CX Contact Centre

Mitel CX is the company’s AI-powered customer experience platform, brought to general availability for enterprises worldwide. The platform automates workflows, enables seamless team collaboration, and delivers personalised customer experiences. Mitel CX received the 2025 Contact Center Technology Award from Customer Magazine.

Edge Architecture

At Enterprise Connect 2026, Mitel announced its edge architecture strategy, reinforcing its commitment to hybrid deployments that keep call control and sensitive data on-premise while leveraging cloud services for AI, analytics, and collaboration features. This approach addresses enterprise requirements for data sovereignty and low-latency call processing.

Why SA Resellers Should Understand Mitel

Mitel’s installed base in South Africa — across both legacy Mitel and former Atos Unify (Siemens) platforms — represents a significant ongoing market for maintenance, support, and modernisation services. The Zoom partnership creates new opportunities for resellers to offer hybrid UC solutions that combine Mitel’s telephony with Zoom’s collaboration platform, without requiring a full migration.

For resellers competing in the enterprise UC market, Mitel’s hybrid positioning and Zoom integration represent a credible alternative to pure-cloud platforms, particularly for organisations with data sovereignty requirements or complex existing deployments.
