Microsoft Teams has been ranked as a leader in both the Garner Unified Communications as a Service and Meeting Solutions magic quadrants
This is Microsoft’s second consecutive year as a Leader for Unified Communications as a Service and the 14th time in which Microsoft has been recognized as a Leader for Meetings Solutions.
Gartner Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications as a Service, Worldwide
To be ranked on the worldwide UCaaS quadrant, vendors must offer:
- Telephony
- Meetings
- Messaging
- Mobility and software clients
It is also optional to offer Communications-enabled business processes.
Microsoft Teams strengths were noted as being in existing enterprise licence agreements and a low cost to add telephony to E1 or E3, tight integration with Office 365, good meetings experience.
Cautions included the 99.9% SLA, lack of contact center as part of the same UCaaS offer, high cost and relatively small coverage for calling plans (Garner note 11 countries, but Microsoft is now up to 16 countries directly, and 2 via partners) and complexity of finding a partner to work with on deployment.

Microsoft strengths were noted as Office 365 ecosystem, the pace of innovation and deployment flexibility
Cautions: Managing external participant/complexity of guest access, Meeting access controls like passwords and locking a meeting and “visual collaboration” dinging Microsoft for leaning on other Microsoft apps like Whiteboard and OneNote.
