Snom has fine-tuned its C520-WiMi conference system. The solution can now easily compete with significantly more expensive competitor devices.
With the C520-WiMi conference solution, first presented in spring 2019, Snom, the worldwide established top brand for modern IP telephony, offered a powerful, cost-effective conference solution for SMEs and for increasingly popular Huddle Rooms.
During the pandemic, the many plus points of the C520-WiMi have become increasingly apparent in practical use: whether it was about maintaining social distance between employees in large meeting rooms without losing transmission quality, or about increasing flexibility by using the Snom conference device in the home office, the C520-WiMi quickly became a central component of corporate communication.
The diverse application scenarios reported by customers and the resulting requirements for the technology were an incentive for the developers of Snom, to further enhance the already superior technology of the C520-WiMi.
The manufacturer runs its own audio laboratory in Berlin, equipped with the world’s most advanced tools for sound optimization. And the fine tuning of the C520-WiMi has paid off: often, the performance and audio quality of the C520-WiMi Ref.2 exceeds that of the more expensive solutions offered by the competition** and is also comparable with products in the high priced segment.
“The best possible audio quality is always the focus of endpoint development at Snom. The sound design of a phone is almost an art form for us: to reproduce our voice so it is crystal clear without glitches and interference factors, takes more than just a loudspeaker and a microphone”, explains Dusan Aleksic, Head of Hardware Development at Snom.
The C520-WiMi Ref.2 now replaces its predecessor model at the same price. The cost effective C520-WiMi Ref.2 conference system is now available in stores for € 200.00. It is and remains a perfect solution for all telephone conversations with several participants – today more than ever.
What has been improved?
Specifically, the technicians of the Berlin manufacturer succeeded, among other things, in improving the results of the “TOSQA Procedure “ (Telecommunications Objective Speech Assessment) and now consistently reach TMOS values (TOSQA Mean Opinion Score) of 3 on receipt and 3,5 with transmitted audio samples.
As a reminder: in telecommunications, 4,2 is considered the maximum achievable value. The up to 40% more expensive devices of the competitors achieve results of 3,2 (reception) or 3,0 (transmission).
The “Double Talk Performance“ – in other words, the ability to send and receive simultaneously without losing signal quality – could also be increased (by up to 7 %).
Last but not least, the playback quality of the integrated full-duplex loudspeaker was increased. This means the C520-WiMi Ref.2 in the 3.4 KHz frequency range can easily keep up with the high-end competition. At the 7 KHz range, sound reproduction is clearly even better. Even the volume of -2.75 dB is convincing in comparison with the competitors (-2.42 dB).
