Gigaset is expanding the functionality of its IP DECT base stations. Via the open alarm, messaging and location interface, the single and multi-cell systems can be connected to messaging and alarm servers. The scalable systems from Gigaset thus support the reception of text messages and the placement of emergency calls. Location data can also be transmitted. This increases employee safety and optimises time-critical workflows by quickly relaying alarm statuses and other information to mobile devices on site. Gigaset worked closely with alarm experts tetronik GmbH to develop the interface – at market launch, the single-cell N670 IP PRO and multi-cell N870 IP PRO are compatible with tetronik GmbH’s DAKS alarm servers and are therefore ready for use in clinics, the health and nursing sector, in the industrial sector, in the public sector or in the hotel industry.
Modern DECT communication solutions create maximum freedom of movement in demanding work environments. With the N670 IP PRO and N870 IP PRO, Gigaset offers a scalable solution for smaller companies with 20 handsets up to corporate structures with 20,000 handsets. Now the single- and multi-cell systems from the DECT pioneer from North Rhine-Westphalia can also be connected to alarm servers via an open interface. “This gives our DECT handsets enormous added value,” says Michael Anft, Product Manager at Gigaset. “Alarms and messages reach employees wherever they are – in the hospital room with the patient, at the factory servicing machines or on the forklift in the warehouse.” Thanks to seamless handover and roaming, users can read and reply to messages anywhere on campus, with event-specific icons, colours, sound signalling or detailed instructions on how to proceed. In the event of an emergency, signalling can even take place during ongoing phone calls.
Targeted help through precise location
In the event of danger or threat, users have the option of triggering an alarm themselves. The Gigaset R700H PRO and S700H PRO handsets offer a separate, easily accessible button located above the display. For localisation purposes, certain alarm servers can request data from the handset from which they can deduce its position. In doing so, the new DECT handsets of the Professional series R700H PRO, S700H PRO, SL800H PRO not only send a snapshot of the DECT environment, but also use the information from Bluetooth beacons that are detected in the vicinity. The handsets can also send their own identifiers in cycles, i.e. represent mobile beacons themselves, and thus be integrated into external positioning systems. This enables very precise localisation as a prerequisite for targeted assistance.
The handset as a message terminal
The alarm, messaging and location (AML) interface will unfold its full benefit in the healthcare sector. In hospitals or nursing homes, for example, a patient call can be signalled on the DECT handsets, specifying the room and call type, and reach the nursing staff immediately, regardless of where they are in the building. The alarm server maintains the call until it is answered by a team member. Messages are signalled according to their priority level: In a defined order and discreetly in the background or simultaneously to all nursing staff and very prominently in an emergency – for example, in case of an acute danger to the patient or a fire. Icons, colours and the use of different ring tones facilitate quick orientation.
tetronik and Gigaset: partners in development
The open interface for Gigaset’s DECT-IP systems was developed in close cooperation with the experts at tetronik GmbH. For this purpose, the alarm specialists from Taunusstein in the German state of Hessen have also extended the well-known DAKS alarm server with corresponding innovative functionalities. DAKS reliably handles information distribution and alerting in connection with emergency calls, malfunctions and other triggers. DAKS supports efficient crisis communication as well as everyday business processes. Thanks to their compatibility, DAKS and the Gigaset N870 and N670 IP DECT systems can now be used together. The DECT system as the interface to the employee immediately delivers messages according to the priority level and records the response. If required, direct voice connections can also be established or (emergency) voice conferences can be called.
Easy configuration and transparent pricing
The provisioning model of the new Gigaset Professional handset generation allows administrators to efficiently and consistently pre-configure a larger number of devices – for example with uniform ring tones for alerts.
