Microsoft Teams: AudioCodes release Virtual Direct Routing Survivable Branch Appliance (DR-SBA)

Exciting news from AudioCodes, they have released their Direct Routing Survivable Branch Virtual Appliance for deployment on VMware and Hyper-V platforms in a customers DC.

This allows a customer to virtually deploy Teams PSTN Voice survivability in the event that the site loses connection to the internet/Microsoft Teams Service.

For example, if the customer site has centralised internet via a WAN link and local IP connectivity for a SIP trunk.

When the internet is disconnected, Microsoft Teams desktop client goes into offline mode, and if an SBA is configured the following calling-related functionality is available:

  • Making PSTN calls via local SBA/SBC with media flowing through the SBC.
  • Receiving PSTN calls via local SBA/SBC with media flowing through the SBC.
  • Hold and Resume of PSTN call

The SBA code is provided by Microsoft to SBC vendors who then bake it into their solutions.

The SBA feature is supported on the following Microsoft Teams clients:

  • Microsoft Teams Windows desktop
  • Microsoft Teams macOS desktop

Not yet on IP Phones.

This AudioCodes Virtual DR-SBA joins their other physical SBC’s and Survivable Branch Appliances for Microsoft Teams.
