iPECS vUCP – its more than virtualization on Amazon Web Services

yuno 2

We know the benefit of virtualization. Virtualization is the process of creating virtual applications, servers, storage and networks.

It is the single most effective way to reduce IT expenses while boosting efficiency and agility for all size businesses. iPECS vUCP (Virtual UCP) is a software base call server that is added into iPECS call server line-up running on VMware’s virtual environment. You can transform the way you distribute the dedicated hardware based iPECS UCP100/600/2400 so you don’t need to have them in stock to physical delivery to customer site.

iPECS vUCP can increase your IT agility, flexibility and scalability while creating significant cost savings. It enhances deployment flexibility, scalability and cost effectiveness while providing all the advantages of UCP which means an increase in your profitability and business productivity. In general, these are all benefits of virtualization that make ICT simpler to manage and less costly to own and operate then the dedicated hardware based iPECS UCP.

I would like to talk about the latest version of iPECS vUCP we have released that is compatible with AWS(Amazon Web Services) in order to meet the growing requirement from our partners and customers as AWS becomes more dominant in every market.

It is specially a perfect solution when technicians are not allowed to travel to the customer site in this pandemic. Here are few things that give additional benefits. You may be required to understand the fundamentals of AWS.

You may need to select the AWS region first where the AWS service is available. These are distributed around the world so that customers can choose a region closest to them. You can select an Availability Zone in the region. Each region is completely independent and each Availability Zone in the region is isolated. This achieves the greatest possible fault tolerance and stability

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) provides scalable computing capacity in Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. Using Amazon EC2 eliminates your need to invest in hardware servers up front, so you can deploy applications faster. You can use Amazon EC2 to launch as many or as few virtual servers as you need, configure security and networking, and manage storage. Amazon EC2 enables you to scale up or down to handle changes in requirements. The type can be selected based on the requirement of the iPECS vUCP.

An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) provides the information required to launch an instance. You can launch multiple instances from a single AMI when you need multiple instances with the same configuration. You can simply select one of the provided public AMIs such as vUCP, vVOIM, vVOIMT, vMCIM, and vUVM.

Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) provides block level storage volumes for use with EC2 instances. EBS volumes behave like raw, unformatted block devices. EC2 instance for iPECS vUCP systems will use EBS and the storage is already defined and associated with the virtual machine. You can select the type of EBS volume when creating an EC2 instance.

Security Groups acts as a virtual firewall for your instance to control inbound and outbound traffic. When you launch an instance in a VPC, you can assign up to five security groups to the instance, not the subnet level. Therefore, each instance in a subnet in your VPC can be assigned to a different set of security groups.

You can activate Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon Virtual Private Cloud) to launch iPECS vUCP into a virtual network that you have defined. A VPC is a virtual network dedicated to your AWS account. It is logically isolated from other virtual networks in the AWS Cloud. This virtual network operates like a traditional network that you would operate in your own data center. A subnet is a range of IP addresses in your VPC. You can launch AWS resources into a specified subnet. Use a public subnet for resources that must be connected to the internet, and a private subnet for resources that won’t be connected to the internet. The following are snapshots of some possible VPC configuration for the iPECS vUCP as an example.

Are you ready to shift from CAPEX to OPEX model enjoying all the iPECS features running on AWS?

We have reviewed a few of the major steps for AWS service and benefit of iPECS vUCP AWS.

iPECS vUCP has been continuously upgraded since it was first introduced a few years ago, enhanced security (change of default login value and HTTPS and port number from 437 to 443, kernel and package upgrade) in 2018, we released the AWS compatible version and system default license was downsized to fit SMB requirement in terms of cost and the hybrid geo-redundancy feature was added between on-prem UCP and vUCP in 2019, With more to come this year and the future.

Again, iPECS vUCP is easy to use and cost effective, gives you flexibility, reliability, scalability, high performance, and security. More importantly you can improve your productivity and profitability, and with iPECS vUCP in AWS, it is a significant shift in the manner of adapting an iPECS solution.
