ICTs for people with disabilities

[25 June 2020] ICASA has published draft “Code for Persons with Disabilities Regulations” for public comment.

[12 April 2019] ICASA will be holding a two-day workshop on the Draft Code for Persons with Disabilities, inviting interested stakeholders who have been involved in the consultation process around the first, second and third Draft Regulations previously published.

The workshop will be held on 6 & 7 June 2019 (09h30 – 16h00) at ICASA’s head office in Centurion, in the EP-CG Auditorium.

[20 December 2017] The deadline for submissions on the Draft Code for Persons with Disabilities has been extended to 16h00 on 17 January 2018.

[21 November 2017] ICASA has published a further draft of the Code for Persons with Disabilities after taking into consideration comments and recommendations from stakeholders received in respect of the November 2014 draft regulations.

[8 January 2016] The Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services has invited interested persons to attend an interactive symposium on ICTs and accessibility to be held from 3-5 February 2016 in White River, Mpumalanga.

DTPS Invite to ICT Accessibility Symposium February 2016

The aim of the symposium is to discuss the role of ICTs in the elimination of barriers to access by persons with disabilities in various areas including accessibility and usability of ICT facilities, products and equipment, to promote the perspective of such persons in ICT policy formulation and to provide feedback to the Disability Sector on the implementation of the Disability and ICT Strategy as well as the Youth and ICT Strategy which were both launched in 2012 by the DTPS.

There will be an opportunity to be part of an interactive exhibition, which will run concurrently with the Symposium from 08h00 to 16h30. Details for the Symposium as follows:

Venue: Protea Winkler Hotel, White River, Mpumalanga Province

[26 June 2014] According to a media release dated 24 June 2o14, public hearings on the draft Code for People with disabilities will be held around South Africa commencing on 26 June 2014 and culminating in a two day event at ICASA’s head office.
