We’re excited to bring you the latest update from the world of communication technology. In this article, we will be summarising the key highlights of the recent Version 18 Update 8, a significant release from 3CX, a leading player in the field. You can read the full details on their website https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v18-u8/
Yealink T4X Phones Join the Router Phone Club
One of the headline features of Update 8 is the inclusion of the popular Yealink T4U series phones as router phones. For those unfamiliar, router phones are devices that allow you to use your IP phone as a router, eliminating the need for a separate Session Border Controller (SBC). This addition opens up new possibilities for users as it’s likely that many 3CX installations already have Yealink T4U phones in place, making the transition to router phones more accessible and cost-effective.
Streamlined Office 365 Integration
Update 8 makes setting up Office 365 integration a breeze. The process is now automated, simplifying the creation of the O365 Application on Azure. This transition to the latest 365 API enhances reliability, security, synchronisation of users and contacts, event logging, and automatic certificate renewal. It’s a significant step forward for businesses relying on Office 365 for communication and collaboration.
Enhanced CRM Integration
The new update also brings improved CRM integration, allowing users to populate their CRM with contacts from inbound calls via the web client. Additionally, you can seamlessly add and search CRM contacts directly from the web client, offering easy access to all your phone books, whether they reside in your CRM, Microsoft tools, or 3CX.
Web Client Reporting Gets User-Friendly
Reporting receives a makeover in Update 8, moving from the Management Console to the Web Client. This shift provides more accessible and enhanced insights into call data, queues, ring groups, and individual agent performance. Please note that this feature is available to managers or owners only.
Simplifying IP Phone Provisioning
3CX continues to simplify IP phone provisioning. With Update 8, the Remote Provisioning Server (RPS) can now be used for on-premise 3CX installations, expanding its utility. Manual configuration or option 66 provisioning is still possible. It’s essential to be aware that RPS now requires Split DNS, a requirement for all future installations.
New Admin Console Dashboard
The administrative section of the Web Client has been renamed the Admin Console. A new dashboard provides insights into your licence key status, and you can update owner details. The event log takes centre stage as the primary troubleshooting resource for administrators.
Warning Pop-Up Notifications
The release includes two warning pop-up banners for product registration errors and assigning system owner rights to an extension user. These notifications enhance user experience and ensure proper system configuration.
Security Update for Bridged PBXs
For increased security, bridged PBXs now require a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) instead of an IP address. This change is a security enhancement for bridged systems.
TAPI Support in Desktop App
The Desktop App now includes TAPI support, enabling enterprise integration with applications like Datev. This integration offers advantages like initiating calls from other applications, call data recording, and automatic caller data display and contact creation.
Additional Updates
Other notable updates include enhancements to Live Chat, the return of the Plantronics Spokes SDK, new SIP trunk providers, and more.
How to Get Version 18 Update 8
This update is suitable for production systems and can be accessed from the management console. Ensure you update to “New 18.0 Update 8 Final” for the latest features and improvements.
